Abstract

Submarine cables are exposed to various marine environments over extended periods, and repetitive lateral loads from waves and ocean currents can lead to bending damage. To prevent failure due to excessive bending, a Bend Restrictor is used on the exterior of the submarine cable, making it crucial to accurately assess its bending behavior and performance. This study employs a numerical analytical method to examine the bending behavior and structural performance of the Bend Restrictor. The structural performance of the Bend Restrictor was evaluated by considering rotational loads related to the target bending moment (15.0 kN·m) and the maximum bending moment (43.1 kN·m). Additionally, the study investigated whether the Minimum Bending Radius (MBR) was met at a bending moment of 15 kN·m. The results confirmed that the structural performance of the Bend Restrictor was adequately secured in relation to the bending moment.


해저 케이블은 다양한 해양 환경에 장기간 노출되며, 파랑과 해류로 반복적인 횡하중에 의해 굽힘 손상이 발생할 수 있다. 과도한 굽힘으로 인한 파손을 방지하기 위해 해저케이블 외부에 Bend Restrictor를 사용하는데 굽힘 거동과 성능을 정확히 파악하는 것이 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 Bend Restrictor을 대상으로 수치 해석적 방법을 이용하여 굽힘 거동 및 구조적 성능을 살펴보았다. Bend Restrictor의 구조적 성능은 목표 굽힘 모멘트(15 kN·m) 및 최대 굽힘 모멘트(43.1 kN·m)에 관한 회전 하중(Rotation Load)을 고려하였으며, 굽힘 모멘트(15 kN·m)에 대하여 최소 굽힘 반경(Minimum Bending Radius, MBR)의 만족 여부를 파악하였다. 그 결과 Bend Restrictor의 굽힘 모멘트에 대한 구조성능이 확보됨을 확인할 수 있었다.
